TOP MARKS FOR WILSON VALE

Thursday 26th May 2011

Wilson Vale have extended their portfolio of independent schools by winning a catering contract with The Hipperholme Grammar School Foundation in Halifax.

Under a one-year contract worth £200K in annual turnover, a team of six Wilson Vale staff now looks after the catering needs of 400 pupils and staff at the day school, which was established in 1648. The contract officially opened on 3rd May 2011 and was formerly operated in-house.

Hipperholme Grammar School is highly regarded within the independent schools market and has chosen to make changes to its catering provision to ensure that the food offer reflects the school’s culture and high quality standards.

Andrew Wilson, co-founder and managing director of Wilson Vale, said: “We have completely changed the emphasis from frozen to fresh. Everything is now made on-site, using seasonal, locally sourced produce. We have taken chips off the menu, other than for the occasional treat, and it has been tremendously satisfying to receive such a positive response from the students and to see how enthusiastic they have all been towards the healthy and nutritious fresh food approach. The children have been queuing for seconds so that’s a real reflection of how well our food is going down!”

Dr John Scarth, headmaster, said “Although only weeks into the contract, we are absolutely delighted with the remarkable transformation that the Wilson Vale team has made. The new food service style has been enthusiastically welcomed by all and we have already received really positive feedback from students, parents and staff. ”
